Comparison
Pink-It
tapes are cut from either Solartex or Nelson Hobby Lite Fab. We cut
our tapes in six foot lengths and they are consistent in width for
the entire six foot span. There are 15 to 16 pinks to the inch, which
when multiplied out equals 2232 pinks for each six foot strip. Our
pinks are nice and sharp, no rounded edges here. Multiple six foot
strips are taped together and then rolled on a cardboard tube for
your convenience to make them easier to handle.
Since they are cut
from a modeling covering, they accept paint and fill just like the
fabric covering they are applied to.
The ole standby pinked
edge tapes for large scale modelers use to be the pink colored hair
net tapes. They were only available in ½” width so you have no perimeter
tapes unless you overlapped them to get correct width, which does
not look very scale. The second, and probably the most important fact
is that they are made from some type paper/ fabric combination and
would fuzz up a lot once painted. Thus you had to carefully sand them
down and apply another coat of paint- more weight- more work and they
still would stand out from the covering they were applied to, plus
the pinks were not very close to a scale size.
You can also
use the smaller width full size pinked edge finishing tapes. However,
once again, these are made from a heavier weight fabric and have very
large pinks. They also usually require some type of solvent base adhesive
to apply.
